WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump today appointed Ray Starling to the position of Special Assistant to the President for Agriculture, Trade and Food Assistance within the National Economic Council. The American Sugar Alliance released the following statement about the announcement:
- “Mr. Starling knows agriculture and the difficult times currently facing rural America. He understands the concerns of America’s sugar producers and appreciates the important role our industry plays in rural economies and the country’s food system.
“We applaud the White House for filling this important position with a leader like Mr. Starling, and we look forward to working closely with him and other members of the Administration during this critical time. Sugar prices are low, our markets are threatened by rampant foreign subsidization, and we must keep the farm safety net strong to protect America’s 142,000 sugar-related jobs.”
