In the past two years alone, Big Candy and its supporters have tried eight times to gut U.S. sugar policy and outsource America’s sugar production. Congress has rejected all eight of those attempts – the latest of which was an 18 to 32 shellacking by the House Appropriations Committee.
As the Agriculture Appropriations bill heads to the House floor, opponents of U.S. agriculture could be gearing up for vote number nine, even though lawmakers have clearly spoken on this issue.
But before attention turns to floor consideration, we wanted to take a moment to thank the 32 members of the Appropriations Committee who stood with America’s sugar farmers.
In particular, we wanted to spotlight the four appropriators who made impassioned speeches against Big Candy’s power grab.
On behalf of U.S. sugar producers and the 142,000 U.S. jobs we support, “Thank you.”
