Dr. Kenneth Gravois grew up on the family sugarcane farm in St. James parish. His father a farmer and mother a schoolteacher, a career in Ag research seemed inevitable. He received his Ph.D. in plant breeding and genetics from Louisiana State University (LSU) in December 1988. Dr. Gravois spent nine years at the University of Arkansas working as a rice breeder. In 1997, he returned to the LSU Agricultural Center’s Sugar Research Station as a sugarcane breeder, working in that position for 14 years. He led a team effort that released several successful varieties for the Louisiana sugar industry.
Dr. Gravois is now the Louisiana State University AgCenter’s sugarcane specialist.
