Statement on the Farm, Food, and National Security Act

The American Sugar Alliance issued the following statement on the release of the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026:

“Chairman GT Thompson understands the current economic realities squeezing America’s farmers and the need for a full reauthorization of the Farm Bill to bring greater certainty to rural America. We appreciate the House Agriculture Committee’s efforts to pass bipartisan updates to U.S. sugar policy in 2024 and then Chairman Thompson’s championing of those provisions as they became law in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act last year. Those stronger farm policies are paramount as the U.S. sugar industry faces numerous headwinds, including immense economic pressures, excess foreign sugar, and natural disasters like the recent freeze that impacted the Southeastern U.S.

“The Farm, Food, and National Security Act further recognizes the essential role of domestic sugar production in maintaining resilient supply chains and drives progress for strengthened crop insurance tools for farmers.

“America’s farm economy is in crisis; we cannot afford to lose more family farms or factories. It’s time to finally get a new Farm Bill across the finish line.”
